Football Recruits Sign In The Cold

Our country's 45th Super Bowl festivities may dominate the sports headlines in North Texas, but for high school senior football players Wednesday saw National Signing Day steal the spotlight. It was the first day that football-playing seniors could sign National Letters of Intent to spend next season playing on the collegiate level.

Despite weather-related school closures that dampened the plans of many anticipated signing ceremonies, the players were nonetheless able to get their LOI's transmitted to colleges.

That included a taste of MISD standouts.

McKinney Boyd

--McKinney Boyd quarterback Jonovan Griffin, projected as a college defensive back and return specialist, signed with Oklahoma State. Griffin, a Big 12 signee, was MISD's lone Football Bowl Series (Division I-A) signee.

--Boyd defensive end Bo Davis signed with Tarleton State.

McKinney High

--McKinney High running back Travis Tarver II signed with Abilene Christian.

-- MHS running back Damion Willis signed with Missouri Southern.

-- Another Lion, offensive lineman Eric Harrison, signed with Southern Nazarene.

-- Finally, a fourth MHS player, offensive lineman Spencer Harvey, also signed with Tarleton State.

McKinney North

-- North defensive tackle Marcquel Sheppard signed with Trinity Valley College.

-- Bulldogs defensive end Kenyea Alexander signed with West Texas A&M.

-Darius Griffin signed with Southeastern Oklahoma.
