City Council is set to discuss and possibly vote on a plan Tuesday night from Councilman Ray Ricchi, who says fluoride has more risks than benefits in McKinney's water.
Ricchi wants to rid the chemical from the water.
TownSquareBuzz.com will have full coverage of the issue from the City Council meeting. Until then, you can check out a report WFAA.com filmed on the issue by clicking here.

I will be attending tonight's council meeting and covering it for TSB. If you plan on attending and would like to share your opinion on fluoridation, please contact me at blane@townsquarebuzz.com. Looking forward to an interesting meeting tonight!
I am pretty sure that fluoride has contributed to better dental health in the general population, but today it is widely available in oral care products. I also question the policy of adding it to drinking water. Considering that it is toxic in higher concentrations, and there is no possibility of continuous water analysis, lets get rid of it! Thank you Ray for stepping up to the plate on this one.
And here is a study: Impact of fluoride on neurological development in children http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/features/fluoride-childrens-health-grandjean-choi/
I'll support whatever the people want on this issue but here is a link to "The Benefits of Fluoride" from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: http://www.cdc.gov/fluoridation/benefits.htm
As a former city councilwoman, I want to congratulate Councilmember Ricchi for the chutzpah to put this contentious item on the agenda.
Our town fluoridated for 44 years. For all of those years it was politics over science. We were told how safe and effective drinking and bathing in toxic industrial waste, and how important it was to save the children's teeth from cavities. Except after 44 years we had 70% cavities in our childrens' teeth, high obesity and low test scores.
We also have high cancer rates, thyroid, diabetes and kidney disease all with links to water fluoridation,.According to the Am. Cancer Society, our town was ranked 34th in the nation for cancer, while Brooking, Oregon.... 25 miles North of us was ranked 765th..... they have never fluoridated.
Our expanded $43.8 million wastewater treatment plant finished in 2011 with Membrane Bio-Reactor technology cannot remove fluoride from the water so this poison goes out into the Pacific ocean.
It took us 2 tries at the ballot box. In 2010 we lost by 37 votes trying to ban this practice. In 2012, we changed our strategy and went after the supplier of the product UNIVAR (formerly Basic Chemical Solutions).
You see in 2011, I sent out over 40 letters to all the mfgrs, distributors and suppliers of "fluoride" asking for 3 basic things: 1.) Toxicological report, 2.) listing of contaminants, and 3.) proof that their product was safe and effective for all water consumers.... infants to seniors.
I received ZERO responses.
So when we informed the public of this, they voted in a moratorium until such time the supplier decides to provide this information. On Nov. 8th, 2012, fluoride was turned off at the tap. As of today, UNIVAR has still neglected to provide any information.
The most absurd thing about this matter though is that water departments are being given the power to act like doctors or pharmacies. EXCEPT, they do not take a health history, they do not hand out a listing of side effects and the do not monitor the dose. I call this gross negligence. I urge all water customers that are opposed to drinking/bathing/washing their clothes in this toxic industrial waste poison to send in their water bills UNDER PROTEST until such time that the class action lawsuits begin. I had one constituent end up in ER after a 10 minute shower because she's highly allergic to this poison and it is absorbed transdermally. She can't even enjoy our municipal swimming pool.
I encourage all the council members to start doing their homework and stop listening to all the fraudulent information spread by the pro-fluoride group. It's not about children's teeth. It's all about the money. Follow the money trail on the hundreds of millions of dollars saved by the industry from having to legally dump their waste. Then start adding up all the hundreds of millions of dollars they earn from communities just like yours in having their waste filtered through your constituents bodies.

What percentage of McKinney residents drink tap water? And what does "modern science" mean? Is that the same modern science that reverses itself on salt every two years? The modern science which is guilty of perpetuating the global warming hoax (East Anglia U)? The same modern science which looked the other way as Toyota was being held responsible for (imagined) faulty accelerators and prosecuted by a government which had just bought a major stake in a key comptetitor?
Actually modern science indicates that ingesting fluoride is ineffective at reducing tooth decay and harmful to health. Rotten diets make rotten teeth and no amount of fluoride can fix that. Fluoride is not a nutrient nor required for healthy teeth which means consuming a fluoride-free diet does not cause tooth decay. Fluoride is a drug which has many adverse side effects.
Fluoridation Opposition is Scientific, Respectable & Growing
More than 4,500 professionals (including 343 dentists and 538 MD’s) urge that fluoridation be stopped because fluoridation is ineffective and harmful. See statement: http://www.fluoridealert.org/researchers/professionals-statement/text/
I've always said that I should have checked my husband's mouth before I married him! That said, 30 years later, the pain and cost of him spending his growing up years drinking un-flouridated well water has been monumental. We are lucky that we can afford the root canals, crowns, implants, etc., that he has suffered through. His is not the only story...my youngest son is tutored by a gentleman who lives on a farm in Collin County with unflouridated well water. Every day when I pick my son up I get a glimpse into the impact of un-flouridated water for those who can't afford intermediation. His mouth is full of missing teeth and half teeth. His grandchildren have suffered with countless cavities in their baby teeth which have impacted their adult teeth and caused untold pain. All four of my grandparents had all of their teeth removed and wore dentures in their 40's. I'm older than they were and I plan to take my teeth to my grave. I agree that the amount of flouride in the water should be the lowest needed to address these issues, but please don't put our future generations at risk of horrible dental problems that can affect their overall health.
