McKinney Debates: Do You Support a Tax-Free Gun Holiday?

TSB Community Contributor

State Rep Jeff Leach (Plano), has introduced legislation that would exempt shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers and other handguns as well as ammunition, etc. from sales tax. The tax-free holiday would be held every Texas Independence Day on March 2. Scroll to vote and comment below.

Rep. Leach said,

“Texas must take the lead in the fight against the federal government's attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment Rights.  The Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act encourages and incentivizes lawful gun ownership by allowing law abiding citizens, hunters, and sportsmen the opportunity to save money on firearm and hunting equipment, benefitting Texas taxpayers and small business owners and spurring economic growth. As we fight against the federal government's overreach, there is no more appropriate day to instate this tax-free holiday than on Texas Independence Day."

Unreal. This is where our leaders are exhausting their efforts?

Meanwhile I read over the weekend how Texas schools rank near the bottom of the nation on spending per student. Its obvious where the priorities are around here. This smacks of juvenile school yard bully tactics and a "mine is bigger than yours" mentality. Typical fear mongering and a pandering to the paranoid far right who feel big brother is coming to their doors and taking away their iron.

C'mon elected officials, let's focus on our schools and kids future.
