After a 10-game grind in District 10-5A, the McKinney Boyd Broncos claimed the fourth and final playoff spot by defeating Plano 55-42 on Tuesday night. This is the Broncos' first trip to the playoffs in program history.
Boyd got off to a hot start on the road at Plano, taking a 21-7 lead into the second quarter. That proved to be all the Broncos needed to advance to the postseason. Mikel Parish led all scorers with 17 point for Boyd, while Michael Grant added 11 points of his own.
The Broncos finished the regular season 4-6 in 10-5A and 20-9 overall. They will face Richardson Berkner in the bi-district round next week, date and location TBD.
Lions Finish With a Loss
As for the other McKinney school in 10-5A, the McKinney Lions fell 69-47 at Plano East, officially eliminating them from postseason contention. The Lions needed a win at Plano East and a Boyd loss to set up a tiebreaker game on Friday night.
The Lions trailed the Panthers 43-36 entering the fourth quarter, before Plano East exploded to a 26-point frame to ice the game for good. Red Shannon led the Lions in scoring with 14 points while Connor Fuentes added 13. Raynell Denny finished with 10 points.
