The McKinney North High School Swim and Dive Team swam and dove their way to success last week at the District 11-4A Meet. The Boys Team placed 3rd overall while the Girls placed 6th. Overall, out of 61 swims, 50 were lifetime best times for the team.
Ten school records were broken in the following events: Girls 200 Medley Relay (Sarah Linnabary, Kristin Pierron, Madison Kuhn, Tasha Blaskovich); Boys 200 Medley Relay (Patrick Griffin, Mike Mattei, Zach Griffin, Garrett Purdy); Boys 200 IM (Patrick Griffin); Girls 50 Free (Madison Kuhn); Boys 50 Free (Patrick Griffin from lead-off relay position in 200 Free Relay); Boys 1M Diving (Alex Dobbie); Girls 100 Free (Madison Kuhn); Girls 200 Free Relay (Madison Kuhn, Sarah Linnabary, Lauren Burnam, Tasha Blaskovich); Boys 200 Free Relay (Patrick Griffin, Garrett Purdy, Tyler Criss, Mike Mattei); Girls 100 Breaststroke (Kristin Pierron).
Madison Kuhn, MNHS senior, received the title of District Champion in both the 50 Free and 100 Free. Patrick Griffin, also a senior, took 4th in the 100 Free. Freshman Kristin Pierron placed 6th in the 100 Breaststroke. Both the Boys and Girls 200 Medley Relay placed 3rd in their event. The Boys 200 Free Relay took 4th and the Girls 200 Free Relay placed 5th. The top 6 finishers advance to Regionals February 7 (diving), 8 & 9 (swimming). All of the swimmers and the diver mentioned above will advance to Regionals.
Brenda Files, Swim and Dive coach for North, said she is extremely proud of how her team performed this past week. She commented on how hard the team has worked all season.
