Today I am delighted to announce that I am running for McKinney City Council At-Large.
My name is Jeremiah Hammer, and for those of you who I have not yet had the chance to meet, I'd like to share with you, a little bit about me. It will be three years ago this May that McKinney found me, and every day since I moved in has been an absolute blessing. McKinney has given so much to me and the love of my life (and fiancée!) Alyssa. Her holistic chiropractic practice and my consulting business, coupled with the vibrant service culture of McKinney have allowed us to invest our time and energy into things which help improve the quality of life for everyone in McKinney.
As we get to know each other over the coming months, you will find that I bring with me an openness to new ideas and a fresh perspective on our city. My philosophy is that if better is possible, then "good" is simply not enough. McKinney has her share of challenges and I don't want to see them overshadow all that she has to offer to residents, businesses and surrounding neighbors. Because I have been in the community, actively participating through groups like Leadership McKinney, McKinney Kiwanis Club, Holy FamilySchool or serving as Chairman of the Community Development Block Grant advisory commission of McKinney, I have been given a unique and ground-level view of the challenges we face as a city. My close association and consulting work with some local not-for-profit agencies has also given me insight into the way some McKinney residents struggle - and more importantly, how to make small, incremental changes in the short-term which yield positive, sustainable results in the long term.
Running for office isn't about awards and praise, it is about ideas and action. With that in mind, I encourage you to take a look at the work I've been doing. I helped last year’s Leadership McKinney class revitalize the children's garden at Holy Family School, then taught (and still teach) the children how to grow their own heirloom, organic vegetables from seed to seed. I helped found the McKinney Community Garden Association, which has transformed over the past year from a drawing on a piece of paper into a 10,000 sq. ft., productive, community garden. I also organized and opened our home to artists for both the McKinney Art Studio Tour as well as the first annual McKinney Creative Community Holiday Bazaar. As you get to know me, I think you will discover that it's hard to find someone more dedicated andprepared than I am to help all the people of McKinney improve our city and share in her successes together.
But don't just take my word for it. I'm at 502 N. College Street, just past St. Peter's Episcopal Church. If my Jeep is in the driveway, knock on the door. Stop by the house and chat with me. If you can't stop by, give me a call or text me at 214-738-5560. I look forward to hearing from you and humbly ask for your support.
