For the past three years, the Allen Americans have partnered with the McKinney Education Foundation (MEF) to offer discounted tickets to MISD administrators, teachers, students and their families. In exchange, MEF, a non-profit organization, receives a portion of every ticket sold to designated MISD games. At Friday night’s game against the Denver Cutthroats, the Americans hosted MEF as they honored their Dream Builders, select community businesses and individuals who provide year-round funding for MEF Advisors.
The McKinney Education Foundation Advisors are located on the three McKinney high school campuses to provide McKinney ISD students with information and support to pursue a higher education. MEF Advisors encourage students to dream about and plan for college as they guide students and parents through the application process. Over the last seven years, MEF Advisors have helped McKinney graduates find and receive $54 million in scholarship funds!
When describing the partnership with one of the hottest teams in minor league hockey, MEF Operations Director, Margaret Harsch commented, “Non-profit fundraising can be challenging, so we are especially grateful to the Allen Americans for their continued support of MEF and our programs. We always have a great time at the games, but tonight was especially exciting as we were able to acknowledge our Dream Builders and NHL Hall of Famer and Allen Americans minority owner, Ed Belfour, presented a check to us for $2,000. That doesn’t happen every day!”
Additional 2012-2013 Allen Americans games designated to benefit MEF are Monday, January 21, 2013, Tuesday, February 26, 2013 and Tuesday, March 12, 2013 (Spring Break). Proceeds from ticket sales for these games will benefit MEF. Visit the MEF website at www.MmEeFf.com for upcoming ticket information.
