Doesn’t the presidential election already seem like eons ago?
Yet for Mitt, it seems the election just happened yesterday. He insists on reliving his stunning and embarrassing defeat.
It is an almost unspoken rule in American politics that the loser in a presidential contest, graciously concede and then go quietly into the night. Go make a Viagra® TV commercial, but please exit stage left.
But not Mitt, he’s determined to relitigate the election to his legions of mindless zombies, as to why America didn’t fall in love with him.
Newt Gingrich, Bobby Jindal, Susana Martinez, George Will, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, and many others, have this in common - they are all Republican and they unanimously concur, yet in polite terms, “Thank you Mitt, you lost Mitt, now go away Mitt.” Yet, just by hanging around and spewing his mouth, he is quickly becoming persona non grata in the Republican party, and rightly so.
Mitt blames his loss on everything and everyone around him. To date he faults the following:
- The liberal media conspired to make him lose
- Minorities, college students and women wanted “gifts” from Obama
- NJ Governor Chris Christi for embracing President Obama during the Sandy hurricane
- The American voter just didn’t understand his campaign message
That’s right, when in doubt blame the voters. The voters were too stupid to understand him. .
Now, let me be, not so polite Mr. Romney.
Willard, (his middle name) you lost because from the very beginning you were a false conservative.
If it’s one thing I have learned from being a nerdy political junkie, is that the American electorate has some serious memory problems – what I call poliheimers (political dementia).
Does anybody remember that Mitt Romney ran against Ted Kennedy for the senate seat in Massachusetts? Not only that, Mitt ran to the left of Kennedy on most issues: gay marriage, abortion, gun control, taxes, etc.
Mitt Romney is a conservative fraud. He never really believed in conservative principles. He would say and do anything to get elected. And the American people saw right through him.
Republicans had no choice but to vote for him. Republicans would vote an orangutan into office, as long as there is an “R” next to its name - so much for country first, party second.
No Mitt - minorities, women and Millennials are not to blame for your loss.
YOU are to blame for your decisive defeat. You were a pathetic and flawed candidate.
Right message, wrong messenger!
So do us all a favor and go take a ride in all your car elevators, go hang out with your sport team owner buddies and make fun of the little people, go place your $10,000 bets in Vegas and please take an extended trip to the Caymans to count all your cash.
Go hide under your golden rock and leave us alone. You have done enough damage to the Republican party, to American unity and to true conservative principles.
Mitt: SHUT UP ALREADY!

Sandy, I have wrote three responses to your posting above my own comment and deleted each one. I finally was able to say what I wanted to say in this 4th attempt. I have met you and your husband many times over the years in various social functions. I am not sure if it is the "Dr." before your name that has caused "Brain Block" in your make-up when it comes to Obama. In person, you seem to be a sweet, warm loving person, but in this day and age, appearances are not always what they seem. There seems to be some anger on your part toward those who achieve financial success in life. I might add especially those such as myself who achieved such goals thru hard work, application to self-disipline with conservative applications to living (I have drove the same 96' auto for many years). If Obama were the CEO of a major corporation, he would have been fired within his first six months, much less, lasted thru four years, and especially now, have a second term under his belt. Obama will go down in history as the greatest fraud ever, as a President of the United States, that hood-winked the voters of America who placed him in a second term. If there is ever a book to be found at the end of his second term to record his tele-prompter promises, he will be recorded as the lone individual who destroyed the United States in all that once was, our great nation.
As a fiscal conservative and a social liberal (no, that is not an oxymoron), I might have considered voting for Gov Romney if he had stuck to his original beliefs about government's role in being a partner with private enterprise to come up with realistic solutions for our most pressing economic and social problems. As the campaign went on, it became apparent from his "flip flopping" that he was saying anything to appeal to the American voters. The last Presidential debate was almost comical--by the end of the 90 minutes he was practically agreeing with anything President Obama proposed!
I am not a multi-millionaire--not even close, but I believe that the future of the U.S. economy will depend on strengthening the middle class who represent thousands of small business owners, insurance professionals, teachers, farmers, nurses, computer technicians, firemen, policemen, and assembly line workers who need tax reform and incentives to improve their skills, grow their business or profession and raise educated, happy and healthy children.
The average after-tax income of the richest 1 percent of households rose from $377,200 a year in 1979 to more than $1.2 million in 2006--an increase of nearly 260 percent! What about those in the middle? The middle quintile of households saw their average inflation-adjusted income rise from $42,900 to $52,100--a gain of 21 percent. (Hacker and Pierson, Winner-Take-All Politics, Simon and Schuster, 2010, p. 22). How can we continue down that path to unequal economic prosperity for the middle class?
Just how many second homes, yachts, automobiles and McMansions do the ultra rich (1 %) need anyway? The current tax incentives favor the ultra rich, many of whom pay a smaller percentage of earned income to the IRS than I do. Instead of "trickle-down economics" that provided more jobs, we have the reverse--"trickle-up economics" that favor the ultra rich. I voted for President Obama because he "gets it" when it comes to appealing to middle class values and economic needs.
Gov Romney, the American people have spoken. You are a good person with a lovely family, a patriotic American who loves his country, and enough wealth and good fortune to have a great life for you, your wife, your children and grandchildren. Go count your blessings and give up blaming the voters. Happy Thanksgiving!
On a former posting I promised it was my last but this posting caught my eye and I had to comment in taking advantage of my 71 years of wisdom on the planet, including forty-two years of living here in McKinney, Texas.
This total piece represents the "hate attitude" that Obama so effectively used to win a second term. The majority of points that worked for Obama as pointed out by Romney were "right-on-point" in their observations. You see the difference in my generation and the current generation of immigrants into this country are widely seperated from my days as a youth. My Father loved America when he came here in 1926 from Norther Italy thru Ellis Island. As a child I remember my Father telling my Mother, "Julia, I had two goals when I came to America, one was to become an American citizen, the other was to speak English so well, that no one would know I actually came from Italy." When my Father received his first unemployment check when he was "black-balled" by his iron and steel union out of New York City because he stood up and spoke on the behalf of the men in his shop; my Father told my Mother he was ashamed to take that unemployment check. To my Father, it was charity. The next day he went out and brought a stainless steel hot dog push cart and sold hot dogs from it for two years supporting me, my brother, my Mother and himself till he was able to work again in a steel shop. You see my Father loved America. An Italian flag never flew above the U.S. flag in our home. My Father raised two boys who went on with one becoming the Father of three beautiful girls in Smithtown, Long Island and retiring as a building engineer ten blocks from ground zero after 9/11. While I was never a real Father, I did raised three unwanted children in a former marriage and sent two of them thru college. Today, as a former Air Force Veteran of four years of active duty, I am proudly retiring from an insurance business of twenty-eight years in McKinney, Texas and yes proudly sir, I am a mult-millionaire from the sweat of my brow and hard work over these many years, without any hand-outs of any kind from my government these many years. I am proud to have been able to have seen the greatest of America that was, before Obama became our President for a first term, and now very sadly, for a seond term in the what will be the total destruction of the America, that once was great!
Thank you Texascommentator for your response. And thank you for your service to our great country - much respect to you my friend.
I agree and disagree with a couple of points you made.
I absolutely agree that America is the greatest country on earth, we are undoubtedly an exceptional nation. Having lived abroad for many years I can tell you that no matter how bad we may have it here, it is much worse in many parts of the world. But our economic or military prowess is not what makes us great - its the indomitable American spirit in that even though we are many, and of differing backgrounds, we come together as Americans.
I do disagree with your premise that America is only great when a Republican president is in office? Not true. America is great no matter who occupies the White House and regardless of it. Of course America will not be destroyed, that's just silly. America will evolve, and that's a good thing.
The voters have elected divided government, and if history is any guide, we should be entering a very prosperous four years - think Reagan with a Democratic Congress, and Clinton with the Republicans. Thankfully today, there are enough Republicans in Washington to prevent the Democrats from spending us into oblivion.
Every election I am reminded of how fortunate we are to be Americans and live in the greatest democracy in the world. America wins, regardless of party.
Wow, thank you for all the warm wishes and responses. Does anybody disagree with this perspective? I was hoping to get some hate mail :)
In 2016, let's nominate a real conservative as a viable alternative to the left.
Great first column, Eli. I agree that Romney needs to just go away. There is no way any candidate will win a national election if they blame voter segments. Romney was a terrible candidate for the Republican party and to make matter worse, he still doesn't get it. It's great to hear this from a conservative such as yourself.
