Christ Fellowship’s 4th annual “¡Fiesta Latina!” was a huge success. More than 1,000 people from of every walk of life enjoyed the vibrant three-hour festival that was held on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The event was completely bilingual and totally free. Hundreds of dollars’ worth of door prizes where raffled off thanks to the many local business that sponsored the event. Entire families where able to dine for free on the fabulous homemade Latino food (empanadas, popusas, paella, tacos, etc.) and the selection offered by the many restaurants who sponsored the event (El Fenix, Uncle Julio’s, Cristina’s, Gloria’s).
While people enjoyed their delicious Latino meal, they were treated to dazzling live performances from multiple dance groups from Columbia, Mexico and other Latin American countries. There was a moment in the program where the audience came alive, both young and old, to the beat of Zumba, when two certified Zumba instructors came on stage inviting all to come down and participate (the Zumba phenomena originated in Columbia). The audience was also treated to live musical performances from an all-female mariachi band, Rosas Divinas and Christ Fellowship’s en Español Worship Band. The music selection showcased the different rhythms of Latin America while conveying a positive and encouraging message through song.
“This year’s event was a huge success,” said Jaime Gonzalez, pastor of Christ Fellowship’s Spanish ministry. “The goal of Fiesta Latina is two-fold: first, to share the love of Christ with our community by providing a wholesome family friendly event, and secondly, to share with the community the beautiful aspects of Hispanic heritage.
“During the event, spiritual conversations where taking place all over the building and our prayer is that those seeds come to life.”
“Fiesta Latina 2012 was bigger and better. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event and to see what God might have in store for us," said Hector Taborda, volunteer project manager of the event.
Christ Fellowship is intentionally reaching out to the community to make an impact for Christ. "Fiesta Latina is a prime example of what we value as a church, 'to be all together – people who unite to make a difference,'" Gonzalez said.
