At their regular monthly meeting on October 23, McKinney ISD Board of Trustees took the opportunity to recognize several groups.
Down Syndrome Awareness
Dr. Paul Foster, Senior Director of Special Populations read a proclamation establishing October 2012 as Down Syndrome Awareness Month for MISD. He recognized many of the students, parents and teachers attending the board meeting. Additionally, McKinney Boyd Horticultural student Joseph Spait presented trustees with a floral arrangement created on campus.
Nancy Cowlishaw, Coordinator Partners in Education, recognized local corporate partner Raytheon. “The employees of Raytheon have an impact with volunteer hours on campuses across MISD every day,” she said. Although no Raytheon spokespeople were at the meeting, Cowlishaw presented the board with a $16,000 donation on their behalf.
Healthy School Zones
Julie Blankenship, Director of Health Services and Karin Klemm, Health and PE Facilitator recognized the eight MISD schools that have been named Healthy School Zone or Healthy Zone in Training campuses by the Cooper Institute and the United Way.
“McKinney ISD has eight schools recognized which is more than any other district in Texas,” said Klemm. “Cooper and United Way only give out three Healthy School Zone awards a year and MISD got two of them.”
