North Injury News: The Bulldogs were hit hard last week with some serious injuries. Starting running back and key offensive weapon RB Trey Smith broke his collarbone and is likely out for the season. OL Haydan Ambrose tore his ACL, while starting DT Dom Parish tore his labrum. WR/DB Marcus Nobles will also be out this week with a neck/shoulder injury.
3 Question with Head Coach Mike Fecci:
Q: What are your thoughts on last week's loss at Sherman?
A: “It was the kind of things we have been doing that we need to get better at. Sherman is really good, and if you don’t do things right, they are going to make you pay for it and make your pay for it big. I thought our kids played hard. They put seven in the box on us and played press-man coverage defensively, and when people do that you have to be able to throw the ball and get people behind them. We did that, but we just couldn’t connect. It was just one of those games.”
Q: Who is going to have their number called to step up and replace Trey Smith?
A: “Justin Jones. He is the one who came in for Trey last Friday night and he had eight carries for about 60 yards. He had a really solid night. He is a senior and a real physical kid with great vision. He has had a great week of practice with his increased reps this week, but he will step in. Ronald Jones will get some carries as well.”
Q: What is the scouting report on Royse City?
A: “Royse City is kind of simple in what they do. They have a very, very high execution rate and they do things right, very effectively. They aren’t very tricky and they aren’t real flashy, but they are very methodical in what they do. They are content with getting four yards every play, and they like to run some play-action stuff so you can’t fall asleep in the secondary. You have to be able to stop the run against these guys. They have a stacked front defense, and that’s going to cause us to have to get our eyes up and figure out what they are in. I think our kids are excited and I believe we had a really good week of practice.”
