Volunteer McKinney Center offers three ways to get involved this week:
• Plan to kick off the holiday season. The upcoming Believe! 2012 10K & 5K Run, and 1-Mile Walk on November 24, which benefits the children of McKinney, is seeking volunteers. What a wonderful opportunity for energetic families, groups, and individuals to cheer participants. Help with the race from 6 – 11a.m. and then enjoy the festivities of Dickens of a Christmas in the afternoon. For more information, click on Believe! 2012 on the Volunteer McKinney web site.
• Wish 100 Bicycle Rally. The Make a Wish foundation and the City of McKinney are sponsoring a 60-mile ride through the McKinney area to raise funds to help make wishes come true for children battling life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteer positions include Course Marshal, event greeter, trash collection, and table cleaners. If you can help with this worthwhile event, look for contact information on the Volunteer McKinney web site under “Wish 100 Bicycle Rally.”
• Respond to Disaster. When disaster strikes in Collin County, trained volunteers with the McKinney Branch of the American Red Cross respond with immediate emergency help. ARC provides, at no cost, core training for volunteers as well as additional courses to improve the volunteers’ preparedness. Volunteers can choose to be on call days, evenings, or weekends. If you want to make a difference but can’t commit to the Action Team, you can still make a difference by organizing a collection drive for personal toiletries for disaster victims. For information on these and other ARC opportunities, use Keywords, “Red Cross” on the web site.
