Local varsity volleyball teams finished playing in weekend high school tournaments as the season wrapped up a busy opening week.
The Bulldogs' varsity volleyball team (3-4 overall) finished its opening week Saturday by beating Sherman in three sets to win the Denton Ryan Tournament's consolation bracket of the bronze division. Lexey Wilson did a fantastic job with her role as the libero for the Bulldogs. Kristi Carter lead in aces for McKinney North and Megan Brehm and Lindsey Denne shared the setting duties. Melissa Nichols and Viona Vraniqi lead in blocks throughout the tournament while throughout the tournament while Courtney Kankel and Allison Camps shared in leading in kills.
Earlier in the tournament, North beat Little Elm 3-1, winning 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17. North also lost to Denton Guyer 3-1, losing 22-25, 25-9, 19-25, 12-25; and lost to Rudders 3-2, by scores of 25-20, 18-25, 11-25, 26-24, 16-18.
The Lady Bulldogs will host Frisco Wakeland on Monday, Aug. 20, with 9th grade and JV taking the court at 5 p.m. The varsity and 9b matches will follow.
The Lionettes beat Lake Dallas 3-0 on Saturday in their final game of the Denton Ryan Tournament. MHS won by scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-21. MHS also played games Friday but they were not reported to TSB.
The Lady Broncs played in the Duncanville Tournament of Champions over the weekend, winning five of the six matches they played. They beat Frisco Centennial 2-0 on Friday, winning 25-14, 25-15. They also beat Pasadena Memorial 2-0, Arlington Lamar 2-0, Clear Creek 2-0 and Kingwood 2-0, before losing to Colleyville Heritage 2-0.
