Brad Dalke of McKinney finished in fourth place at the 37th Junior PGA Championship held over the weekend at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
During Saturday's final round, Dalke shot a 7-under 65 to charge from behind and finish 8-under at 280 for the tournament. Dalke's score came within a stroke of equaling champion Robby Shelton's single-round record.
Shelton, who is from Wilmer, Ala., claimed the championship shot a final-round 70 for a 13-under par 275 total. Shelton defeated Cameron Champ of Sacramento, Calif., by three strokes. Adam Wood of Zionsville, Ind., finished third at 279.
Dalke, 14, was the youngest top-50 finisher. Two years ago, when he was 12, he committed to play golf for the University of Oklahoma. But that's not surprising. His mother, the former Kay Pryor, is from Tulsa and was on the first OU women's golf team in 1975. His dad, Bill Dalke, was a linebacker on the the Sooners' 1974 national championship team.
Another McKinney native, Branson Davis, tied for 22nd place at 293. In April, Davis won the boys division of the American Junior Golf Association event at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M.
The Golf Channel will present a one-hour highlight show of the 37th Junior PGA Championship, with the first airing on Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. Texas time.
Champ and Shelton earned spots on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team, which will face a European squad of junior golfers at the 8th Junior Ryder, Sept. 24-25, at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club's South Course.
