McKinney Public Safety Children’s Scholarship Foundation proudly presented the 2012 Scholarships to six outstanding students. The third annual event took place July 16 at the McKinney Public Administration Building. Speakers were State Representative Ken Paxton, Mayor Pro-Tem Travis Ussery, Asst Police Chief Randy Roland, and Fire Chief Dan Kistner.
The recipients were:
-Andrew Cook, Texas A&M University, son of Firefighter George Cook
-Caroline Kennedy, University of Texas, daughter of Firefighter Kevin Kennedy
-Tye McKinney, Mountain View College, son of Firefighter Don McKinney
-Ashley Olvera, Arkansas State University, daughter of Police officer Linda Olvera
-Haley Wilkerson , Abilene Christian University, daughter of Fire Captain KeithWhiteside
-Caitlin Zanin, Henderson State University, daughter of Police Detective Kirby Luke
Mayor Pro-Tem Travis Ussery handed out special recognition certificates on behalf of the City of McKinney. McKinney Ladies Association President Tracy Rath presented two scholarships. CoFounders Bob & Sheila Johnson recognized each student and their accomplishments as they were given their scholarships.
The McKinney Public Safety Children’s Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the college-bound children of employees of the McKinney Fire Department and McKinney Police Department with financial support in the form of financial assistance through annual scholarship awards.
