“They (the cast) are doing an excellent job with the accents,” said a new McKinney resident who hails from the United Kingdom.
"The voices are excellent. The orchestra is so good!"
"This production is better than the one we saw in New York."
These are just some of the comments theater goers used to describe McKinney Summer Musicals' (MSM) current production of My Fair Lady, taking place at McKinney Performing Arts Center.
As Col. Pickering would probably say, “You did it, you did it, you did it, by George!” And I couldn’t agree more. MSM has done it again, bringing an outstanding production of the beloved classic musical My Fair Lady to the stage right here in McKinney, Texas.
Under the direction of longtime McKinney resident Kevyn Robertson, the cast creates a superlative musical production featuring an outstanding combination of music, acting and choreography.
Noelle Chesney is absolutely brilliant in the lead role of Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl who has her sights set on becoming a proper lady, and inadvertently on Professor Henry Higgins, her linguistics teacher. Chesney portraits Eliza with feeling and determination.
JB Jones, who plays Professor Higgins, is superb as the tough-minded teacher who, with great conviction, takes over Eliza’s life as a means to an end – winning his bet that he can transform a bedraggled Cockney girl into passing for a duchess at the ambassador’s ball.
The solid, humorous performance by Brian Leicht as Colonel Pickering brings a bit more caring side to the story as the foil for Higgins’ more callous side.
Set in London in 1912, the audience is swept back in time by the set and stunning costumes, particularly the elegant black and white theme showcased during the Ascot horse race scene. Those familiar songs such as “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “Wouldn’t it be Loverly?” and “Get Me to the Church on Time” were dazzling.
The supporting cast and choruses are stupendous – energetically performing perfect harmonies and choreography. The entire production is, in a word, "loverly"!
