There's nothing quite like marching in a parade, especially in McKinney's hometown Fourth of July parade. The throngs of people waving and cheering; the flags and bunting billowing and patriotic music playing. The TownSquareBuzz Foundation will once again have an "Honor Those Who Serve" float this year except we're inviting the community to march alongside us! The only catch - you have to wear a red shirt. You can wear any red shirt, but if you would like a limited edition "Honor Those Who Serve" red shirt benefiting McKinney's Community Lifeline Center Veterans Assistance Program, please click to order.
Back in March, the City of McKinney proclaimed each Friday in town as a "Red Shirt Friday," encouraging every citizen to wear red to show they care. Wearing red is a simple way to say "thank you" to our local veterans and their families. (See related story on the proclamation below.) We thought it would be an outstanding tribute to vets to infiltrate the parade route with a mob of red walking behind our "Honor Those Who Serve" float.
Yes, it will be warm, but the parade starts at 10 a.m. Plenty of time before it gets too hot. Plus, we have some nice fans we'll be handing out to walkers. The route is pretty short too.
So McKinney, practice your best parade smiles and waves and meet us at Tennessee and Davis Streets around 9:30 on July 4th. Our hometown heroes have sacrificed so much. Won't you do them a favor and march for them?
Click to purchase your Honor Those Who Serve T-Shirt online or from any of our hometown merchants.
PS - Does anyone know why the high school marching bands, and even the drum corps, refuse to participate in the parade? We know they've been asked.
