Xavier Jackson, a 14-year old incoming freshman at McKinney North High School, competed in the 2012 Southwestern AAU Junior Olympics National Qualifier in Burleson, TX, on Saturday, June 23, where he placed first in both the 100m hurdles (13.66 F.A.T.) and the 200m hurdles (26.45 F.A.T.) in the Youth Boys division (14U).
This accomplishment earned Xavier a bid to attend the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston in late July. Xavier is currently ranked #2 in the nation by Elite Youth for the Youth Boys 100mH and ranked #6 in the nation for the 200mH. He is also the 2011 Sub-Youth AAU National Champion in the 100m hurdles and bronze medalist in the 200m hurdles and cherishes the opportunity to attend the AAU Junior Olympics again this year.
Xavier also has his sights on competing at the USATF National Junior Olympics in Baltimore, Md. To accomplish that goal, he took first place in both the 100m hurdles and 200m hurdles at the USATF Southwestern Association Championships in Rockwall, TX a couple of weeks ago and advanced to the USATF Regional Championships in Lubbock, TX next week.
This weekend, Xavier will be competing against the #1 ranked 100m Youth hurdler in the nation when he goes up against D’Anthony Walcott of San Diego, CA at the 2012 USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Arlington at Maverick Stadium on the campus of University of Texas, Arlington. These National Championships will attract over 2500 young athletes competing in six, two-year age divisions. Live results and daily recaps will be posted on www.usatf.org .
Xavier is a member of the North Texas Burners Track Club and trains with coaches Williams and McDowell.
