As part of the ongoing TxDOT project to widen U.S. 75 from the Sam Rayburn Tollway to White Avenue in McKinney, TxDOT has informed the City that Virginia Parkway underneath U.S. 75 will be completely closed to traffic for up to three nights this week to partially demolish the southbound U.S. 75 bridge over Virginia Parkway. The closures are expected to begin at 9 pm and end at 5 am this Wednesday night, 6/20, Thursday night, 6/21, and Friday night, 6/22.
This will only impact Virginia Parkway traffic underneath U.S. 75. The main lanes and frontage road lanes of U.S. 75 will remain open. Drivers seeking to travel eastbound on Virginia Parkway will be directed to a detour via Parkview Avenue. Drivers seeking to travel westbound on Virginia Parkway will be directed to a detour via White Avenue. These closures will only happen at night and all lanes of U.S. 75 and Virginia Parkway will be re-opened by 5 am each day.
This TxDOT construction project will provide much needed extra capacity by widening U.S. 75 to four main lanes in each direction and three frontage road lanes in each direction. It is anticipated to be complete in 2015.
