It’s time for another season of high school football, summertime version.
The 7-on-7 football season began Tuesday for McKinney Boyd and McKinney North, while McKinney High begins its campaign next Thursday morning at Frisco Liberty High School.
The Broncos Broncos began the season 2-0 by defeating North 32-29 and Melissa High School 27-19 last week. The Bulldogs dropped to 0-2 with their second loss coming to Princeton 39-6.
While only the skill position players are the focus of these summer games, all three MISD coaches find these leagues extremely valuable for several reasons. For one, it is a great way for quarterbacks and receivers to build solid chemistry facing consistent one-on-one coverages. Secondly, coaches can evaluate just how much speed they have on the perimeter of the field and if they can use it to their advantage come August. And lastly, it is a chance for the team to bond together through competition, as they get ready for the real deal this fall.
If parents and fans can’t wait until August to get their high school football fix, heading out for some 7-on-7 action should do just the trick to wet that appetite.

BOYD:
Week One (June 5th): vs. North (W 32-29) vs. Melissa (W 27-19)
Week Two (June 12th): vs. Princeton vs. North
Week Three (June 19th): vs. Melissa vs. Princeton
Week Four (June 26th): vs. North vs. Princeton
Games begin at 7:10 and 7:45 p.m. Every game is 30 minutes with a running clock.

Week Five (July 19th): Field B – vs. Frisco Field C – vs. Heritage
