The McNeil Elementary Student Council recently completed efforts to beautify the front entry of its school with a new flower bed planted in honor of the school’s namesake, Arthur McNeil. They invited McNeil to their campus on Thursday, May 31 and presented the garden as a token of appreciation for McNeil’s many years of service to the students of McKinney ISD.
McNeil, who was not expecting to be honored in this way, was moved by the gesture. “I’m humbled,” he said. “I’m so grateful that they would do that, and I’m just proud of the way it turned out.”
The project began in March when the student council decided to improve the appearance of the school’s front exterior. “We started kind of small,” said 5th grade teacher Tera Ross, “but we transformed it little by little with donations and student council planting and just kind of changing the overall look of our campus.”
McNeil said, “The crepe myrtles and the flowers just came out beautifully, and I couldn’t be more proud of it.”
