As part of The McKinney Kiwanis Club “Terrific Kids” Reading Program, students of Caldwell Elementary that reached 100% of their individual reading goals for the school year were treated to a magic show on Friday, May 25th at the year-end Terrific Kids celebration. Main Street Magic of McKinney donated the magic show, “What a Magic Show!”, that was presented by Erich Biggs. Students and teachers were energized and entertained during the celebration.
The Kiwanis Club of McKinney has sponsored the “Terrific Kids” Reading Program at Caldwell for the last four years. At the end of each nine-week period during the school year, students that reached their reading goals received a gift form a local merchant and the class with the highest percent of achievement in each grade level was given an in-class celebration.
227 students qualified to participate in the 2012 year-end celebration, which was a 26% increase over 2011. Chris Clark, principal, and Kelly Flowers, assistant principal, are very pleased with the reading program and the impact it seems to be making on the students.
The local merchants that supported the “Terrific Kids” Reading Program at Caldwell during the year were: Main Street Magic, Dairy Queen, Hutching B-B-Q, CiCi’s Pizza, McDonalds, Barnes & Noble and The Kiwanis Club of McKinney. The Kiwanis Club would like to encourage everyone to support and thank these merchants for making a difference in our community.
