Brandon Milam is leaving McKinney Boyd for an administrative position closer to home.
Milam, who has served as head baseball coach since the school opened in 2006, resigned from his position on Thursday to become the assistant principal at a high school near his old stomping grounds in Carthage.
During his six seasons leading the Broncos, he's taken them to three playoff appearances and three consecutive second-place finishes in district.
“He has been there since the beginning,” Boyd athletic director Don Drake said. “We hired Brandon to start the baseball program here at Boyd, and he’s done a fantastic job. I hate to lose him, I really do. Not just because he is a great baseball coach but also because Brandon Milam is a great individual. He’s a person of character and integrity. He shapes and mold kids lives in the finest fashion there is, in my opinion.
"So for a guy like that not to be serving in that capacity for us in the baseball program, I hate to see that.”
After six years of having familiarity in the baseball coaching staff at the very top, Drake knows he must go out and find another impact coach to continue to lead this Bronco baseball program in the right direction.
“Now how will we approach it from here? I was entrusted the first time to go and find someone like that to go take that program and lead it, so now I’m going to find another guy like that who can come in and do it,” said Drake. “I’m not going to say you replace a guy like Brandon Milam, because I think he is outstanding. But we are going to find the best person for that job that’s going to come in and lead that program and do a great job as well.”
Drake said he expects the process to begin within the next week, as the job will be posted and applicants will begin being accepted quickly.
“I would expect there would be several candidates that will apply for the position,” said Drake. “It’s a solid baseball program with great facilities and everything else. We’ll move as quickly as we can through that process.”
Milam and his wife, Lesley, have four children: Reese, Ashtyn, LeeAnna, and Camryn. Milam was also a teacher in the math department at Boyd.
From all the past and present baseball players who played under Coach Milam, including myself from 2006-2010, we all wish Brandon and his family the best of luck in this next stage of their lives.
