5A: After rain postponed the one-game playoff between McKinney Boyd and Temple to Saturday at Baylor University, the Lady Broncos were unable to advance to the regional semi-finals as they lost 7-2 to Temple. Erin Riding was the losing pitcher on the mound for Boyd. She did not get much support in the field on account of three errors in the ballgame. Boyd’s Sam Stockford doubled twice in the game while Miranda McDonald doubled once. McKinney Boyd finished the 2012 campaign with an overall record of 29-7-1 and took home the District 10-5A championship with a perfect 14-0 mark. This was undoubtedly the softball programs best season of its six-year existence.
4A: When rain struck the Metroplex all day on Friday, many softball series around the area had to change the format from best of three to just a one-game playoff, including the regional quarterfinal matchup between McKinney High and Rockwall. However, the two District 10-4A rivals treated the fans and parents to a little extra baseball on Saturday at Allen Eagle Field when the Lionettes and Lady Yellow Jackets engaged in a grueling 10-inning affair that lasted almost three hours long.
In the end, Rockwall’s Sharon Maquire rocked a ball in the left-center field gap in the top of the tenth to plate two Lady Yellow Jackets and give them the 6-4 victory. Chelsea Thomas was the losing pitcher for the Lionettes, who went all 10 innings. Thomas also doubled twice in the ballgame, while Krissy Fontillas doubled once and her sister Alyssa Fontillas tripled. The Lionettes could not get the big hit all game long as they left 16 runners on base in the ballgame, including the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth. MHS finished with an overall mark of 21-12 in 2012 and finished third in District 10-4A with a 10-4 record.
