After climbing her way to to final four, McKinney's Hollie Cavanagh finds herself at the end of her American Idol journey.
Tougher than nails mentor Jimmy Iovine alluded to Hollie's final song choice as the potential reason the popular songstress found herself in jeopardy after last night's performance and nationwide vote.
"Any one of [the finalists] with the right song can win it," says Iovine of the final four. "I wasn't going to push one way or the other [on song choice]."
After taking on Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me", Iovine and the panel of celebrity judges critiqued Hollie's song choice as beyond what her age and life experience would allow her to sing convincingly.
After learning her fate, Hollie watched with the rest of America as AI rolled tape on the moments that have made up Hollie's tenacious uphill climb.
Says Hollie as she reflects back over the journey that has moved her from a nervous newcomer in Season 10, to the confident performer she is today, "I can definitely see a change between then and now."
As has America. After weeks of enduring less than constructive criticism from celebrity judges, sometimes so harsh, even the other contestants felt a need to weigh in with the press, in the eyes of those who've witnessed her uphill battle, Hollie has emerged on the other side if not an American Idol, most certainly as an American Role Model.
In perhaps one of the classiest exit serenades experienced on the American Idol stage, Hollie summed up her experience best in the words of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb".
"But I gotta keep trying, gotta keep my head held high,
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna want to make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb"
As she bid farewell in song, Hollie walked the stage to hug each of her fellow contestants, then moved to shake the hands of the judges whom some believe sealed her fate with their biased remarks.
Although Hollie's Idol journey ends tonight, Hollie-pops rejoice! It won't be long till Hollie will once again share the stage with her fellow songbirds. Tickets for the 46 city American Idol Live! Tour go on sale tomorrow, May 11th. See Hollie at the American Airlines Center when the tour swings through Dallas on July 29th. To grab your tickets now, click here.
