It hit me today that for 11 weeks, yes 11, TSB has been promoting "Vote for American Idol contestant Hollie Cavanagh" at all of our Hollie watch parties, on our website and every chance we get. Some local businesses have also jumped on the bandwagon to support our local "celebrity" and have posted good luck wishes on their Facebook pages and on their business marquees as Hollie has stayed in the limelight for months. It's been fun; it's way cool to say we "know" one of the contestants. We are claiming our "star", perhaps living a bit vicariously through her as she bravely faces millions of viewers and three sometimes harsh judges week after week. We root her on, we send her positive messages and we cheer for Hollie.
But beyond the cool and fun factor of voting for someone who is from McKinney, Texas, there is more to the story! Every time you vote for Hollie she has a chance of moving closer to the top - to being one of the three finalists. If she is indeed one of the three finalists, American Idol, and Hollie, come to McKinney this Saturday, May 12, for a grand celebrity homecoming of parades, pep rallies, concerts and filming. Yes, filming by American Idol. That film - of Hollie in McKinney - will be shown all over the world.
People all over the world will have an opportunity to have a peek into this special community that we call home - that same community that was voted the #5 best place to live in the country by Money Magazine in 2010.
Sure, American Idol is about the making of a singing star and regardless if Hollie is crowned the American Idol 2012, she is already a winner. But Hollie's ride also provides our city with another chance to show off!
McKinney is a great place to live. We have affordable housing, job opportunities, beautiful parks and recreation areas (including our brand new tennis facility), and great schools. McKinney boasts a thriving, charming downtown, the center of which is an intimate Performing Arts Center housed in the old, historic courthouse. Great dining, art, music and shopping is part of the vibrant downtown scene.
Despite rapid growth, McKinney retains that small town feel which, as I'm out and about around town, I often hear people commenting on. So, vote for Hollie and vote for McKinney.

American Idol airs locally on Fox 4 on Wed. evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. and from 7 - 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Voting instructions are outlined during the show. Voting is only allowed from 9 - 11 p.m. on Wed.
