After losing a nine inning heartbreaker in game one at home on Thursday night, McKinney Boyd completed the series comeback versus Mesquite by winning game three 7-3 at Plano High School on Saturday afternoon. In the final matchup between Lady Bronco’s pitcher Erin Riding and Mesquite’s Victoria Bice, Riding was able to get the upper hand as Boyd out hit the Lady Skeeters 10-8 in the ballgame. Jill Nicklas and Bailey Jo Jones both tripled for the Lady Broncos. Miranda McDonald also doubled in the game.
Boyd will face Temple High School in the regional quarterfinal next week. Temple defeated Garland 7-2 in a one-game series. Game times and locations will be announced shortly.
McKinney High will face Rockwall in the regional quarterfinal next week. Rockwall defeated Seagoville 21-1 in a one-game series on Friday night. Game times and locations will be announced shortly.
Going into game three, McKinney North and Frisco Wakeland had combined for just four runs of offense. On Saturday at Kelly Field in Carrollton, everything changed as both teams found their way with the bats.
North came up just short in the slugfest, losing 13-10 to Wakeland, despite holding the lead for most of the game. Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, North was up 10-6 and needed just six more outs to eliminate one of the top teams in the state in class 4A. However, the lack of depth at pitching started to show for the Bulldogs as game one starter Will Shumate had to come to the mound to pitch, eventually giving up the lead and taking the loss for North.
At the plate the Bulldogs had some incredible performances, including a four double game from Montana Sadler. Braden Fair was right behind him with three doubles, while Anthony Herrera had two of his own. Heath Beasley and Justin Stevenson hit just one double for the Bulldogs. Wakeland overcame poor pitching and defense to win on Saturday, committing six errors in the field.
North finished the season with a record of 18-10, including going 7-7 in District 10-4A and earning the fourth and final playoff berth on the final night of the season versus Wylie.
