The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees approved Dr. Logan Faris as the new Principal of McKinney High School at their monthly board meeting on Tuesday night. Dr. Faris has been with McKinney ISD for six years, serving most recently as Principal at Dowell Middle School where he has led the campus of more than 1,200 students. Under his leadership, Dowell was recently named a 2012 Intel Schools of Distinction Finalist for their innovation in math instruction.
Prior to his service at Dowell, Dr. Faris was an Assistant Principal at McKinney Boyd High School. While there, he played an instrumental role in establishing a positive school climate during its opening in 2006. Among his many duties at Boyd, Dr. Faris functioned as Bronco Camp Coordinator for incoming freshman, introduced the McKinney Boyd High School Discipline Matrix to assist in discipline consistency and served as administrative representative to the Early Intervention Team (EIT).
Before coming to McKinney ISD, Dr. Faris served as an Assistant Principal in Center ISD and in Nacogdoches ISD as well as Assistant Principal for Curriculum at Center High School. He began his career as a science teacher in Leggett ISD and then Broaddus ISD teaching a variety of subjects that included Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Dr. Faris earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Education and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership degrees from Stephen F. Austin University. His doctoral dissertation, The Teacher’s Voice: Narratives of an Empowering School Culture, focused on teacher empowerment. Dr. Faris has also served as Adjunct Graduate Professor for the College of Education at Dallas Baptist University since 2008.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to join McKinney High School in the fall,” said Dr. Faris. “McKinney High School has a rich tradition, and I am looking forward to being a part of a dynamic campus that promotes excellence in everything. I am looking forward to meeting with the MHS staff, students and parents and learning more about ways I can serve. I appreciate this opportunity and look forward to a wonderful year.”
The Board of Trustees also approved the hiring of Gordon Butler as Assistant Principal at McKinney High School. Butler comes to McKinney from Midlothian ISD where he has served as Assistant Principal at Walnut Grove Middle School since 2009 while providing leadership in various areas including discipline, testing coordination, new teacher mentoring and at-risk student mentoring.
Prior to serving at Walnut Grove Middle School, Butler taught World Geography and U.S. History at the Excel Academy Charter School in East Boston, Massachusetts. He has also taught ESL Language Arts and Social Studies at Bowie Elementary and Cochran Elementary in Dallas ISD.
“I look forward to being a part of a school and community that is still rich in tradition despite the rapid growth that has occurred in MISD,” said Butler. “My family and I are excited about this new journey in our lives and are anxious to become active residents of McKinney.”
McKinney ISD is pleased to welcome Butler to the district and to congratulate both Dr. Faris and Butler on their new positions at McKinney High School.
