McKinney Boyd lost a chance to win the district baseball championship on Friday night by losing to Rowlett 7-4 in what many regarded as the game of the year in District 10-5A. Russell Williams was the losing pitcher for the Broncos. Williams also doubled in the ballgame for Boyd, while Will Hollis contributed with a home run. The loss drops Boyd to 10-3 in district play and puts the Broncos in a lock with Sachse for second place. However, Boyd has the head-to-head advantage over Sachse and would have the second seed if both finish with the same record. Boyd will host MHS this afternoon at 1 p.m. before finishing the district season at 2-11 South Garland next Friday night at 4:00 p.m.
McKinney North fell just short of knocking off second place Rockwall on the road Friday night, losing by a score of 6-5. Aaron Rhodes earned the loss for the Bulldogs on the mound, while Will Shumate hit two doubles in the ballgame at the plate. North dropped its District 10-4A record to 6-7 with one game left to go, but fortunately for the Bulldogs, both Wylie East and Wylie lost its games. This means that North and Wylie East are locked in fourth place at 6-7, while Wylie barely hangs in with a 5-8 record. However, North won’t have to do a lot of scoreboard watching in its season finale next Friday night, as the Bulldogs travel to Wylie High School with a chance to finish at 7-7 and knock Wylie out of the playoff hunt. The other game of interest will be in Rockwall, as Wylie East will travel to first place Rockwall-Heath in its season finale. If East wins and Wylie defeats North, all three teams will be 6-8 and will likely play in a round robin series since each school split the season series with one another. Game time for the matchup between North and Wylie will be 7:30 p.m.
McKinney High won its third straight ballgame by knocking off Wylie East 5-4 on Friday night. Brad Vassar was the winning pitcher for the Lions. MHS helped out its crosstown rival by defeating Wylie East while continuing to end the 2012 season on a very high note. The Lions will try and wrap up the season on a four-game winning streak when they host 9-4 Highland Park next Friday night on Senior Night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
