Perhaps the biggest upset of the baseball season in District 10-4A came Friday night when McKinney High knocked off crosstown rival McKinney North 9-4 at Al Alford Field.
Brad Vassar got the win on the mound for the Lions, while Aaron Rhodes took to the loss for North. Anthony Hermelyn doubled for MHS in the game, while Heath Beasley doubled for the Bulldogs and Rhodes doubled and tripled at the plate as well. MHS improved its district mark to 2-9 on the season. The Bulldogs dropped to 6-5 and fell into a tie for fourth place in the district with Wylie East.
The Lions will play at Richardson Pearce on Tuesday night. Game time is 7:00 p.m. North will travel to Little Elm for a non-district game on Saturday at noon, then return to district play on Tuesday when they host 7-4 Highland Park. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
McKinney Boyd won its fifth consecutive game by defeating North Garland 11-2 at Bronco Field on Friday night. With Sachse and Rowlett both winning its games as well, the three-way tie up top District 10-5A continues. In perhaps the game of the season, the Broncos will travel to Sachse on Tuesday night for a chance to gain a game on their district rivals. Game time is 4 p.m.
