Four students from McKinney Boyd High School were nominated for the 2012 DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards, presented by the Dallas Summer Musicals.
Boyd seniors Michael Williams, Riley McRae, Kayla Perkins and Max Hodde were nominated for best actor, actress, supporting actress and featured player, respectively. All four performed in the school's production of Phantom of the Opera in the fall of 2011 with Williams as the Phantom, McRae as Christine, Perkins as Carlotta and Hodde as Piangi.
"It is such an honor to be nominated; I'm very proud of the McKinney Boyd Phantom Of The Opera show and the work that was put into it by everyone," said Williams. "I'm super excited about this nomination and I look forward to meeting the other nominees and seeing them perform at the award ceremony."
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on May 5 at the Music Hall at Fair Mark. The winners of the best actor and actress awards will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for five days to New York City to represent their schools in the National High School Musical Theater Awards for the chance to win up to a full, four-year scholarship to the NYU Tisch School of Drama (valued at up to $100,00).
Patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the event celebrates the power of the Arts to significantly improve all areas of education. Show business veterans and community celebrities will come together to spotlight the achievements of high school students and their school’s musical theatre programs. Awards will be given in 15 categories including Best Orchestra, Best Director, Best Musical Direction, Best Supporting Actor/Actress Best Musical Production, and Best Lead Actor/Actress, to name a few.
