The McKinney High girls shut out Frisco Liberty 2-0 in their UIL bi-district round soccer playoff game on Friday night at Ron Poe Stadium. MHS got offensive production from Lizzie Naverette and Natalie Thronberry, who both scored one goal in the match. The win moves the Lionettes overall record to 14-3-3 on the season. MHS will face Carrollton Creekview, who defeated Sulphur Springs 5-0 on Friday, in the second round Tuesday night.
The McKinney North girls team also enjoyed a shutout on Friday night, blanking Frisco High School 3-0 at Prosper High. Alon Encalade, Belicia Mendiola, and Hadlie Tucker all scored a goal for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved their overall record to 15-5-1. North will face Highland Park in the second round of the UIL state tournament. The Lady Scots defeated Paris High School 10-0 on Friday.
Game times and locations for both girls playoff games will be announced shortly.
The fourth place team out of District 18-4A, Frisco Wakeland, upset the District 17-4A champion McKinney High boys by a score of 1-0 at Clark Field in Plano. The lone goal of the game came from Wakeland’s Tristan Honaker. The Lions had not lost a game since January 20th, when Frisco Liberty 1-0 defeated them. MHS finished with a perfect 12-0 record in district, becoming the first team in program history to win back-to-back district titles.
The disappointment continued on Friday night when the McKinney North boys were shut out 3-0 by Frisco Liberty at McKinney Boyd High School. Despite defeating Liberty 3-2 back in January at the Frisco ISD Tournament, the Bulldogs were unable to get any offense going and were shutout for only the fifth time all season. North finished with a 12-8 record overall and was the runner-up to MHS in District 17-4A.
