Girls Basketball Playoffs: North Upsets Wakeland in Opening Game

McKinney North threw the seedings for a loop Monday night in Prosper, as the Lady Bulldogs beat District 9-4A champion Frisco Wakeland 57-55 in a Class 4A Region 2, Bi-District round girls basketball game.

The UIL first-round postseason battle took place in Prosper, where the Lady Bulldogs, the fourth seed from 10-4A, jumped ahead 16-11 after one quarter and 29-20 at halftime. North led 38-32 going into the fourth quarter and held on for the victory.

North won its 20th game, improving to 20-12 on the season. Wakeland's season ended with a 23-11 record.

North will next play Dallas Bryan Adams (16-9), the No. 2 seed in 12-4A, in the Area Round, which runs Thursday through Saturday across the state. Bryan Adams knocked off Dallas South Oak Cliff 63-47 in another bi-district contest on Monday night.

Three players led North with 13 points apiece: Chanterria Jackson, Amy Kleynhans and Alexis Mason. Putting in 10 was Mikeahla Connor.

OTHER LOCAL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAMS IN POSTSEASON PLAY:

McKinney Boyd (15-18) will play Dallas Skyline (27-4) in a Class 5A Region II Bi-district game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wylie. The Lady Broncos made it as the No. 4 seed out of District 10-5A after beating Garland Lakeview Centennial 51-47 in a tie-breaker game Friday night. Skyline advanced as the No. 1 seed out of 9-5A.

McKinncy Christian Academy (20-11) advanced to the TAPPS 3A Playoffs as a No. 2 seed. The Lady Mustangs will host a No. 3 seed, Frisco Legacy Christian, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at MCA's Joshua Gymnasium.
