McKinney High and McKinney Boyd will be District 10-5A rivals from 2012-14, as the UIL announced its reclassification and realignment on Thursday.
Joining the Lions and Broncos in 10-5A will be Allen, Plano East, Plano High and Plano West -- the four largest high schools in the state of Texas, according to figures provided by the athletic association. This also is arguably one of the toughest football districts in the state.
The cutoff for 5A this year was 2,090 students. McKinney High barely made it at 2,121, making MHS the 10th-smallest 5A school among the 245 classified in the conference. Boyd was announced at 2,900 enrollment.
Meanwhile, McKinney North remains in 4A but moves to District 13, where it joins Denison, Greensville, Lovejoy, Royse City, Sherman, Wylie East and Wylie High. The Bulldogs had been in 10-4A, along with MHS, previously.
The enrollment to qualify for 4A was 1,005-2,089. North announced and enrollment of 1,771.
Boyd used to be in a district with Allen and the Plano schools -- in 2008-09 -- when it was then 8-5A. But those schools had moved out, leaving Boyd with the Garland schools, Sachse and Rowlett during the previous two seasons.
