The McKinney Police Department is issuing a “Crime Alert” regarding both residential and commercial burglaries.
The alert is being issued as result of a recent spike in burglaries, 81 residential and 38 commercial, which have
occurred from October 1, 2011 through November 28, 2011. In most cases, forced entry has been made through doors and windows located on the front side of homes and businesses.
More specifically related to commercial burglaries, suspects are using “Smash and Grab” tactics where front doors and windows are being shattered and expensive merchandise, particularly flat screen televisions, in close proximity and in plain view are being stolen.
Residents are encouraged to secure all residences and businesses in their absence, and to conduct security surveys, update locks, lighting, and alarms when needed. Residents are also asked to report all suspicious activities and/or suspicious individuals, to include information regarding any criminal offenses to the McKinney Police Department at 972.547.2828.

When it comes to the rank and file in McKinney Police Officers, we have some of the finest law enforcment personnel in this part of Collin County, Texas. In my drive this morning from Eldorado (where my home is located) to my office in downtown McKinney, I came across no less that five police officers in hiding, awaiting to write traffic tickets.
I thought perhaps many of my fellow tax-payers in McKinney are not aware that the Police Chief of our city "serves at the pleasure of the City Manager of McKinney." This outward display of our Police force mainly being used to write traffic tickets to fill the falling coffers of the City of McKinney, places true leadership and concern for our citizens in the hands of the wrong leaders, who are guiding our city. What adds injury to insult, our city council and its mayor have now extended their terms on the council to four years. This is due wholly to the huge Apathy problem we have in our community. A great example of this is that in this last election, with the opportunity to modify council terms on the ballot for those city council terms, only 3.1 percent of our registered voters, actually voted. Of course, the extended terms passed.
In our county, as well as a city, we now have the third largest tax base in the State of Texas. One would think that such huge taxes on the homeowners of McKinney would pay for adequate police patrol in our communities, instead of sticking to all resident drivers for tickets on our by-ways in McKinney. What is even stranger, it is in a climate where everyone is struggling, the City of McKinney requires $50 a year from each of the homeowners to have a monitored alarm system. For a business, paying even a higher share of taxes, the fee is $100 a year.
It almost seems that our city suffers from a time wrap as to what is actually happening to our country. The spending of our city administrators continually increases in unnecessary additional taxes, and fines to our McKinney residents, while the "fat-cats" of city government hold as many closed door meetings as possible in finding ways to fill their own pockets in real estate side deals, while breaking it off in the McKinney tax payers.
The voters of McKinney, indeed need to awaken from their sense of apathy, before they find themselves losing their homes in their inability to pay their city, county and school taxes each year. It is time to reverse this locked-in-future of dark times in replacing members of our city council, our city managment team, as well as the Administrators of our Police Force.
The only way that will be accomplished is a citizens petitition calling for a recall city election in McKinney to lay out a plan to replace our council, as well as the leaders of our city services with individuals who are true "Servants" and not "Politicians."
