News and notes from last week's City Countil Meeting:
--McKinney Arts Commission Chair Linda Spina presented a recommendation for a public art program in McKinney.
--Mayor Loughmiller presented a Boy Scouts of America Heroism Award to McKinney resident Noah Satele from Troop 909. Noah received the award for preventing a house from catching fire and subsequently saving the lives of the inhabitants.
--The Mayor also read a proclamation naming Nov. 15, 2011, Karen Morman Day. Ms. Morman, a Literacy Specialist at Webb Elementary, was named the McKinney ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, the Region 10 Elementary Teacher of the Year and the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Texas State Board of Education. She will be a candidate as the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year to compete for the National Teacher of the Year.
--Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) presented Mayor Loughmiller and his team members with a trophy and First Place plaques for the Mayors’ Challenge, which took place at the Sept. 26 CASAs for KIDS Classic Golf Tournament. All of the Mayors in Collin County were invited to enter a team in the tournament and competed for the Mayors’ Cup. The challenge was to raise awareness during the tournament to CASA’s mission in Collin County regarding advocacy for abused children.
--City Council voted to split the McKinney votes evenly between Dr. Leo Fitzgerald and Wayne Mayo for the Board of Directors for the Central Appraisal District of Collin County with item 11-541.
--The appeal to roadway impact fees by the Louisiana Street Grill detailed in item 11-136M2 was tabled until the Dec. 6 meeting.
