McKinney FFA Members Win Big at State Fair Swine Show

McKinney FFA members attended the State Fair of Texas Junior Barrow show on October 3rd-7th and fared well.

Mara Vernier of McKinney High School placed 6th out of 50 in the middle weight crossbreds with her barrow “Walter”.

Ashlee Daniels of McKinney North High School placed 2nd out of 35 in the heavy weight Durocs with her barrow “Bently”.

Ashlee was also named the Texas Bred Class Champion heavy weight Duroc. Both Mara and Ashlee’s pigs qualified for the Auction of Champions that was held on Friday, October 7th. Only the top 110 or 6 percent of the barrows exhibited at the State of Texas qualify for the Auction of Champions.

Cole Carter of McKinney High School placed respectfully with his dark crossbred barrow “Charles”.

Mara, Ashlee and Cole’s participation and success at the State Fair of Texas qualify them for scholarships that are awarded by the State Fair of Texas. For more information about the State Fair of Texas visit www.bigtex.com
