Dowell's eighth- and seventh-grade volleyball teams beat Cockrill on Thursday night, winning a clean 6-0 sweep between the MISD schools.
The Dowell Lionettes eighth grade volleyball teams had the most exciting battle against the Cockrill Cowgirls.
The Blue “B” team rallied their momentum to win in three, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-12. Outstanding players for these three games were Hannah Sweeney for offensive with 17 serves, 4 aces and 7 hits and Audrey Broas for defensive player with 2 aces, 3 saves and 2 kills. Whitney Deupree was the overall player of the game with a great comeback game of 10 aces, 5 hits and 1 kill.
The Gold “A” team closed out the set in two in a decisive fashion, 27-25 and 25-7. Overall defensive player was Ashley Mollett with 3saves and 1 kill and outstanding offensive player was Montana Watts with 5 hits and 2 kills. The outstanding player of the game was Jillian Duffin with 14 serves, 1 ace, 2 blocks, 3 kills and 1 tip.
The White “C” team battled for their win in three, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-12. Outstanding all-around players for these matches were Taylor Smith with 5 hits and Hannah Pete with 2 hits and 3 serves for offensive players and Valor Haggerty with more court coverage and Riley Donahoe with 3 aces, 1 block, 4 hits, 2 kills and 1 tip.
Next set is against the Sherman Wildcats on Thursday, October 27th, starting at 5:00pm at Dowell.
In seventh grade action, The blue team came out strong, winning two sets to try and set the tone for the evening. Mariah Kelty and Ciara Kase were the co-offensive players of the game, each going on a roll with a string of point-earning serves to lead our team to victory. Madison Davis chipped in with a great defensive effort providing consistent passing and saves on the floor - she was named defensive player of the game. Mikayla Kuehne and Julia Hoyle were the overall players of the game, providing consistent court-play in all areas. This win puts the blue team with a 3-4 overall record.
The Gold team struggled a bit to pull out a win in a three set match, but eventually came away victorious. Ashley Ladd brought a strong offensive game with aces and kills to lead her team to a win. McKenzie Smith and Celia Hilsabeck both played great defense with great saves and consistent court coverage to be penned defensive players of the game for the night. Rebecca Groskopf soared in all categories from excellent serving, to great sets and hits, to help lift her team to ultimate victory and be named overall player of the game. The Gold team’s record is now 4-3.
The White team finished the night off with a win, but was not completely off the hook, winning their match in three sets also. Celia Clark brought her defensive game again, providing front row attacks and saves to aid in her team’s match win. Meg Dickson and Jadyn Hardaway were the offensive players of the night providing superb serving and passing. Alex Coleman continued to raise her game and help her team in the process receiving overall player honors for the night. She too provided front row attacks and saves, but also leadership to help her team finish off with a win for the night. This brings White team’s record to 5-2.
