Undefeated Rockwall-Heath Keeps MHS Winless

Rockwall-Heath dominated during its 47-14 football victory over winless McKinney High on Friday night at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.

Heath improved to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in District 10-4A; the Lions fell to 0-5 and 0-2.

McKinney led 7-6 after the first quarter thanks to a 10-yard TD pass from Roberton Somborn to TV Williams.

However, a late first quarter interception thrown and a momentum-killing holding call that led to a turnover proved too much for the Lions to handle; It was all downhill from there.

After giving up 33 unanswered points by halftime, the game was figuratively over for McKinney High.

Hopes of a rejuvenated second half for the Lions never manifested. Because of a concussion and shoulder injury, Somborn sat out the second half and senior Buck Shaw took over the offensive reigns at quarterback. Shaw proved efficient with 45 yards on four completions, but was unable to join his teammates in any sort of comeback.

Heath led 47-7 going into the fourth quarter, when the Lions added a late touchdown on Jimmy Benton's thrilling 99-yard run.

MHS hosts Rockwall next Friday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m., at Ron Poe Stadium in a homecoming matchup.
