Singers from across McKinney and beyond have submitted their videos to compete in the McKinney Mash Up, a vocal competition hosted by the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC). The top winners will receive $2,500 in cash prizes during the Mash Up Finals at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. Winners will also have the opportunity to open for American Idol Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks at a special performance at MPAC on Saturday, Sept. 17.
"We're thrilled by the response to the McKinney Mash Up. This is a first year event for us, and we are very impressed by the talent and passion of the performers. As a fundraiser, this event helps us support our mission of nurturing and encouraging the artistic endeavors of our community," said MPAC Director David Taylor.
Over 85 contestants have uploaded an audition video showcasing their talent for online voting. Audition videos are online for viewers to watch and vote at http://mckinneymusicmashup.strutta.com/entries. Online voting closes on Aug. 29 at 11:59 p.m.
Performers with the videos who received the most votes will advance to the semi-finals at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. Live audience voting at the semi-finals determines which 10 solo performances will move on to the finals. Group and solo finalists will compete at the finals at 8 p.m. later that evening.
Mash Up finals will be judged by entertainment professionals Michael Sarver, Linda Septien and Glenn Goodwin. Sarver established himself as a talented singer with a big heart and lots of potential during Season 8. Septien, of Septien Entertainment Group, has taught voice for 24 years, and her students include Jessica Simpson, Beyonce and four top 25 American Idol Finalists. Glenn Goodwin has decades of experience in the entertainment and corporate industries. He is currently CEO and a co-founder of UeberMusic, a McKinney-based social media network entertainment platform.
The judges will select one winner for the solo category and one winner in the group category. Each category winner receives $1,000 in prize money. The audience will also select their favorite, with a prize of $500 for the audience pick.
The McKinney Mash Up is co-presented by TownSquareBuzz.com, McKinney's online source for news and entertainment. Matt Bado, TownSquareBuzz's Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, will serve as the host for both the semi-finals and finals.
