It's almost time for school. That means it's time once again for the MHS Royal Pride Band to hit the streets and raise funds for the 2011-2012 year. Preparations for the 10th Annual Royal Pride March-a-thon are underway. Meanwhile, the Drumline and Color Guard got down to business with camps week. Starting Monday, August 1st the entire band is in camp working on their fall show music and routines.
They will also be polishing special music for the three outdoor concerts performed for the public at Tom Thumb, Market Street and the InTouch Credit Union grand opening for the McKinney branch during the March-a-thon.
Students will be marching to raise funds which pay band fees for the year and their out of state spring trip. Students are out and about right now taking pledges and greatly appreciate your support. This year's March-a-thon is slated for Saturday August 13. Come out and see 2011-12 Drum Majors, seniors Maggie Korte, Nick Mills and Carly Prince lead the 160+ strong Royal Pride through McKinney. The day starts at 8:00 a.m. in the MHS parking lot and stops at Tom Thumb, Market Street and InTouch Credit Union for mini-concerts and review. Route details are as follows. After departing MHS, The Royal Pride Band crosses under I-75 onto Valley Creek Trail and begins the trek uphill to Sunny Meadow, Kensington, Provine and Hardin Roads. They continue to White Wing, La Paloma, Creekridge, back to White Wing and then to Doe Run. The final lap of the route is Quail Hollow back to Hardin, across Eldorado to Tom Thumb on Eldorado Parkway.
Tom Thumb is the site of the band's first concert and flag review. It is also a most welcome place to refill with life sustaining water. Many thanks go to Tom Thumb for donating all water throughout the day from bottles to camelback refills and keeping the RPB hydrated. For several years the band has also been treated to lunch at Market Street. The RPB is again thankful for the generosity of Market Street in providing this year's lunch stop and mini-concert performance opportunity around 11:30 am. The band will then perform for the grand opening of the McKinney Branch for the InTouch Credit union across the street from Market Street at 6375 W. Eldorado Pkwy.
In their fourth year with the MHS Royal Pride, Director Ken Ringel and Assistant Director Marcus Hunley, are mentoring their largest group of MHS students yet at 160 strong. Back for his second year, Mr. John Willmarth is our Percussion Director and we welcome Brandon Clemons who is our new color guard instructor.
The Royal Pride Band is actively looking for local companies to partner with us in sponsorship of excellence. We are happy to show our appreciation by carrying your banner or providing a special ensemble or drumline for your event. All corporate contributions go to the general fund which is specifically set aside for equipment repair, need-based lessons and scholarships. All donations are tax deductible. For more information or to sponsor, call Director Ken Ringel at 469-742-5856 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Details about this fine program may be found at www.mhsroyalpride.org.
