McKinney High alum Matt Lipka signed an MLB contract last June with the Atlanta Braves. Currently, the 19-year old shortstop is playing minor league ball with the Rome Braves in the Class A South Atlantic League. In addition to a .234 batting average, Lipka has totaled 23 RBI and 15 stolen bases this season.
On Thursday night, in front of a home crowd of over 2,300 fans, the Braves walked away with a 5-4 win over Greenvile Drive. With the game tied at 4-4, the two teams went into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Lipka tripled to left field with one out. Third basemen Edward Salcedo was next up to bat and he came through in the clutch for the game-winning hit to score Lipka and give the Braves their second straight victory.
The Braves will face Greenville again Friday night.
